Mini Roulette Review
Mini Roulette by Playtech is marketed as a portable version of classic roulette. As opposed to a traditional roulette wheel, which has 37 or 38 chambers, this wheel has only 13. That makes it a good fit for smartphones and smaller tablets, but it also makes it a nice change of pace for the casual player and a more easily digested experience for the roulette novice.
Gameplay
The mini version of the roulette wheel used by Playtech has a single zero and is numbered one to 12. The red chambers are all odd numbers, and the back chambers are all even numbers, which helps make the table a bit less complex. Players can also wager on 1-6, 4-9, 7-12 and three columns. The available chip sizes are $0.01, $0.10, $1, $5, $10 and $25. There is no enforced minimum, which makes the practical minimum $0.01. There is also no overall table limit. The limit for a straight up bet, which pays out 11:1, is $200. The biggest possible bet is $3,000 on red/odd or black/even, which pays out 1:1.
To place a bet, click the desired chip value and then the appropriate spot on the table. At any point, the player can click the Clear Bets button to start over. To begin the round, click the Spin button.
Graphics & Audio
Being a mini version of roulette allowed Playtech to break away from traditions, and that worked very well. The play area doesn't feel cluttered the way most online roulette games do, and everything is easy to read and manipulate. The sound effects are also very good, and Playtech has opted to use the British female croupier voiceover that it uses on its main roulette games, which is a great touch that gives the game a lot of atmosphere.
Jackpot
The top overall payout is $3,000, but that requires a $3,000 bet on red/odd or black/even. A straight up bet can pay out $2,200 on only $200, but of course, the odds are not nearly in the player's favor.
Overall Impressions
Roulette purists may not accept it, but we think that Mini Roulette is actually a better online gambling experience than any of the traditional roulette adaption we've tried. The game is such a joy to look at, even on the tiny screen of a smartphone, and it just plays fast and without the complexity of a full-size wheel, which is just overdoing it for a single-person experience.
